An Ecology of Objects and Actions
An Ecology of Objects and Actions was a three-day Masterclass led by Aleks Danko and Dr Jude Walton. The project was a collaboration with the Faculty of VCA and MCM and the Mildura Palimpsest Biennale, (curators Helen Vivian and Jonathan Kimberley) and the La Trobe University Visual Arts program.
It provided a cross-regional educational experience for VCA students, young regional artists from Victoria and built transferable skill-sets for recent VCA alumni. It aimed to facilitate an exchange across geographical boundaries bringing together a diverse group of arts students and practitioners to build consensual and collaborative skills for all the participants.
Over three days a series of activated/performed workshops and site-specific interventions took place in and around the City of Mildura. These spatio-temporal investigations intersect between sculpture, spatial practice and dance/movement. They were designed to give participants the opportunity to observe and respond to conditions, environments, and materials productively and imaginatively, through a process of experimenting and doing.
The workshops sought to establish long-term relationships and are seen as a rehearsal for future possibilities. They acted as a primer to seed opportunities out of which the participants could develop potential works of their own for Palimpsest 2015.
The project was made up of:
- a series of activated site interventions in and around the City of Mildura with a particular emphasis on the elemental attributes of; air, earth, fire, water and ether
- integrating live action, site interventions with live feed blog (or equivalent)
- acheived by conducting a 3-day masterclass and workshop program with current and graduate VCA students with local tertiary art students and practicing professional artists in the area
